Year-round live ant shipping across Europe and the UK

Other ant shops stop shipping when it gets too cold or too hot. We do not. ANTonTOP ships live ants 12 months a year, because every order leaves Poland in seasonal thermal packaging matched to the destination weather. Winter orders include a 72-hour heat pack that keeps the queen above 18 °C even when outdoor temperatures drop below freezing. Summer orders include a cool gel pack and ventilated packaging that hold the queen below 28 °C through heat waves. The colony arrives in the same condition it left our facility, whatever the calendar says.

Inside Poland we ship via InPost parcel locker (1 to 2 business days). Across the EU and to the United Kingdom we ship via DHL Express (2 to 3 business days for EU destinations, 4 to 7 business days for the UK). No import paperwork is required from you — we handle every shipment the same way as inside the EU. Live arrival is guaranteed in every destination. If the queen does not arrive alive, send a photo or video taken on the day of receipt and we re-ship a replacement at our cost.

Direct from a Polish ant breeder, not a reseller

ANTonTOP is one man, one workshop, and 330+ live ant species raised in-house in Poland. Most queens in our catalogue are wild-caught after their nuptial flight, then founded and raised under controlled conditions at our facility until they are stable enough to travel. We ship only healthy colonies. Sick or weak queens never leave the facility.

You do not buy from a warehouse or a middleman. You buy from the keeper who founded the colony and watched it grow from a single queen into the workers you see in the photographs. Photography on every product page shows the actual species, not stock images. Questions about a specific queen go straight to the breeder by message, and replies come back within 24 hours, often within minutes.

How to choose your first live ant colony

For absolute beginners: pick a tropical species from the Beginners filter. Camponotus nicobarensis, Lasius emarginatus, or Pheidole noda — robust queens, no seasonal cycle, fast growth. Sugar water daily plus a small protein source every few days. A colony reaches 30 to 50 workers in four months and rewards you with visible foraging behaviour in the arena.

For experienced keepers: European species with a hibernation cycle. Lasius niger, Formica sanguinea, Messor barbarus, Camponotus ligniperda. Each needs a 3 to 4 month winter rest at 8 to 12 °C, simulated in an unheated room or wine cooler. The reward is a colony with classic European workers and an honest annual rhythm.

For visual collectors: slow-growing display species. Camponotus singularis, Polyrhachis dives, Myrmecocystus mexicanus, Daceton armigerum. Patience required — photogenic size in 18 to 30 months — but the resulting colony is a living sculpture.

Frequently asked questions about live ants

What is the best ant species for beginners?

Tropical species like Camponotus nicobarensis, Lasius emarginatus, and Pheidole noda. They have no hibernation, robust queens, fast growth, and simple feeding. Our Ants for Beginners filter curates 36 such species.

Do you ship live ants to the UK?

Yes. We ship to the United Kingdom via DHL Express in 4 to 7 business days. No import paperwork is required from you — we handle every shipment the same way as inside the EU, and the live arrival guarantee covers UK addresses as well.

How long does delivery take?

1 to 2 business days inside Poland via InPost. 2 to 3 days to Germany, France, Netherlands, and Belgium via DHL Express. 3 to 4 days to Spain. 3 to 5 days to all other EU countries. 4 to 7 days to the United Kingdom via DHL Express.

What happens if my queen arrives dead?

Our live arrival guarantee covers every order. Take a photo or video on the day of receipt, contact us within 24 hours, and we re-ship a replacement at our cost.

Do you ship live ants in winter?

Yes, year-round. Every winter order includes a 72-hour heat pack that keeps the queen above 18 °C in transit, even when outdoor temperatures fall below freezing.

Do you ship live ants in summer?

Yes, year-round. Every summer order includes a cool gel pack and ventilated box to keep the queen below 28 °C through heat waves.

Are these wild-caught or captive-bred?

Most queens are wild-caught after their nuptial flight, then founded and raised in-house at our Polish facility until ready to ship. We send only healthy queens and colonies, never sick or weak specimens.

What do live ants eat?

A sugar source (honey or sugar water) daily plus a protein source (mealworm, cricket, cockroach) two to three times per week. Harvester ants take a seed mix instead. Fresh water always available.

How big should my first formicarium be?

Match it to the colony stage. Founding queens (under 30 workers): a test tube nest. Small colonies (30-200): S or M acrylic, gypsum, or digfix nest. Larger colonies: L/XL multi-chamber setups.

Can I keep live ants if I have pets at home?

Yes. A sealed acrylic or gypsum formicarium is escape-proof when set up properly. Dogs and cats may notice ants in the arena but cannot access the colony through the walls. Apply Fluon or talc to the arena rim for extra escape-proofing.
