Most queens in our catalogue are wild-caught after their nuptial flight, then founded and raised under controlled conditions until they are stable enough to travel. We ship only healthy colonies. Sick or weak queens never leave the facility.

Why specialised water dishes

A flat shallow water dish drowns workers. Ants are not strong swimmers and have poor exit strategy from open water. Drinking plates use surface tension, anti-drown ramps, or capillary action to give the colony water without losing workers to drowning.

Why do ants drown in regular water dishes?

Open water surfaces have no exit. Workers walk in, get wet, cannot climb back over the slippery rim, and drown. Drinking plates with capillary or anti-drown design solve this.

How often do I refill the water?

Daily for small colonies (the dish dries out fast). Every 2-3 days for larger colonies with a bigger reservoir. Always have fresh water available.

Which water dish for a founding queen?

A capillary feeder or a tiny shallow drop on cotton. Founding queens drink very little — the water source must be small enough not to humidify the entire test tube.
