Year-round shipping across Europe and the UK
Other ant shops stop shipping when it gets too cold or too hot. We do not. ANTonTOP ships live ants 12 months a year, because every order leaves Poland in seasonal thermal packaging matched to the destination weather. Winter orders include a 72-hour heat pack that keeps the queen above 18 °C even when outdoor temperatures drop below freezing. Summer orders include a cool gel pack and ventilated packaging that hold the queen below 28 °C through heat waves.
Inside Poland we ship via InPost parcel locker (1 to 2 business days). Across the EU and to the United Kingdom we ship via DHL Express (2 to 3 business days for EU destinations, 4 to 7 business days for the UK). No import paperwork is required from you. Live arrival is guaranteed in every destination.
Direct from a Polish ant breeder, not a reseller
ANTonTOP is one man, one workshop, and 330+ live ant species raised in-house in Poland. Most queens in our catalogue are wild-caught after their nuptial flight, then founded and raised under controlled conditions until they are stable enough to travel. We ship only healthy colonies. Sick or weak queens never leave the facility.
Questions about a specific queen go straight to the breeder by message, and replies come back within 24 hours, often within minutes.
Why keep large ant species
Large workers are easier to observe, photograph, and identify individually. Display colonies built around Camponotus singularis, Polyrhachis dives, or Myrmecocystus mexicanus become room centrepieces. Queens of giant species often live longer (15-25 years) than smaller species. The trade-off: slower colony growth and larger formicarium needed.
Notable large species in our catalogue
- Camponotus singularis — 15+ mm workers, orange head, the iconic display giant.
- Camponotus gigas — 18+ mm majors, one of the largest carpenter ants.
- Dinomyrmex gigas — another contender for largest worker size in captivity.
- Carebara queens up to 25 mm with tiny minor workers (extreme dimorphism).
- Paraponera clavata — bullet ant, Schmidt sting index 4+, for expert keepers only.

Frequently asked questions
What size formicarium for a large species?
L to XL multi-chamber nest. Founding queens still start in test tubes, but the target adult nest is much bigger than for small species. Plan for 30 to 60 cm of nest plus a large arena.
Are large ants harder to keep?
Mostly easier feeding (one large protein item lasts the whole colony a day) but slower to grow. Need larger setups and more patience to see a "full" colony.
How long until a large species reaches photogenic size?
18 to 30 months for Camponotus singularis and similar giants. A small Lasius hits the same worker count in 6 months but with much smaller workers.
Are large ants dangerous to keep?
Most are not — Camponotus, Polyrhachis, Carebara all are non-stinging or low-sting. Paraponera and some Myrmecia have serious stings; we mark these with a clear hazard note on the product page.
Do you ship large species to the UK?
Yes — via DHL Express in 4 to 7 business days. Live arrival guarantee applies.
Can I keep two large species in one room?
Yes, in separate formicariums. They do not interact through walls. One heat source can warm both setups.
