Description

Arena Terrarium S – Small Escape-Proof Acrylic Ant Terrarium

The Arena Terrarium S is a small, fully enclosed acrylic terrarium designed for species that escape most standard arenas. At 8×5×4 cm, it is compact enough for a test tube setup or a small formicarium, and secure enough for Pharaoh ants, Solenopsis, and other tiny or escape-prone species. Connect it to any nest or formicarium via the 8 mm or 10 mm tubing ports and use it as a foraging zone, a feeding station, or a satellite chamber in a larger setup.

Key Specifications

  • Dimensions: 8×5×4 cm
  • Tubing ports: 2 — one 8 mm, one 10 mm — connects to all ANTonTOP modular nests and most standard formicarium tubing
  • Construction: airtight acrylic — no gaps, no loose lids
  • Ventilation: laser-cut micro-perforations — airflow without escape risk for tiny species
  • Material: layered acrylic, stainless steel screws
  • Made in Poland

Who Needs the Terrarium S

Standard modular arenas have lockable lids that are secure for most species — but not for very small or highly escape-prone ants. Species like Pharaoh ants (workers 1.5–2 mm), Solenopsis fugax, Plagiolepis, and similar tiny species can squeeze through any gap that a larger ant would not attempt. The Terrarium S is built airtight: the acrylic panels seal completely, and the only openings are the micro-perforation ventilation and the tube ports, which are sized so that normal-speed workers enter via connected tubes rather than pushing through gaps. If you keep tiny ants, this is the arena that actually works.

How to Use It

Connect the Terrarium S to your nest using an 8 mm or 10 mm tube. Place small food items — insect pieces, sugar water droplets, seeds — directly inside. The compact size means the colony can locate and retrieve food efficiently without long foraging trails. The Terrarium S also works well as an intermediate chamber between a test tube setup and a larger arena, or as a feeding station attached to a bigger terrarium.

Compatible With

The Terrarium S connects to all ANTonTOP modular nests, the Arena Terrarium range, and standard test tube setups via the dual port system. It can also be paired with any formicarium that uses 8 mm or 10 mm tubing.

Decoration and Substrate

Due to its small size, substrate use is minimal — a thin layer of decorative sand or a small piece of cork is enough. Keep the interior clean to avoid contamination in the confined space.

Escape Protection

  • Airtight acrylic construction — no lid gaps
  • Laser-cut micro-perforations — ventilation only, no passage for tiny ants
  • 8 mm and 10 mm tube ports — colony enters and exits through connected tubes

For the most escape-prone species, apply a thin layer of fluon or mineral oil inside the tube port entrances as an additional barrier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this safe for Pharaoh ants?
Yes — the airtight construction and micro-perforation ventilation make it one of the few arenas that reliably contains Pharaoh ants and other 1.5–2 mm species.

Can I use it without connecting to a nest?
You can use it as a standalone feeding dish by plugging the tube ports, but it is designed to work as part of a connected setup.

What is the difference between Terrarium S and the modular Arena 10×10?
The Arena 10×10 is a modular foraging space with lockable lid entrances — good for most species but not airtight. The Terrarium S is fully sealed and specifically designed for tiny or highly escape-prone species.
