Where the Mystery boxes lean on beginner-friendly species, the VIP is defined by rarity. The colony is something a keeper would struggle to find on a standard list, the formicarium is premium and matched to that species’ particular needs rather than a general-purpose nest, and the accessories and surprise items are chosen to suit the colony specifically. Underneath the rarity is a real colony: the cheap novelty tanks ship a few workers and no queen and are finished in two or three weeks, whereas the VIP is built around a living queen and a premium formicarium, so the colony grows and keeps going for years. What you are paying for is a rare, genuinely long-lived colony.

This is not a starter box. The VIP is curated for keepers who already know how a colony behaves and want a species that stretches them. Care instructions for the exact species are always in the box, but a rare colony can carry particular demands, and the VIP assumes someone comfortable reading those instructions and acting on them; a newcomer is better served by a standard kit or a smaller Mystery Box. As a gift it is collector-grade, for an experienced keeper, a serious naturalist, or the person who seems impossible to buy for. Order around 7 to 14 days ahead of a birthday or Christmas, tell us it is a present, and we will time the dispatch. The colony arrives in a secure transport tube with a formicarium matched to it. Connect the tube to the entrance, keep the setup warm and quiet, and let the colony cross in its own time, usually within a few hours to two days. Detailed instructions specific to the species are always in the box: temperature, humidity, feeding and any winter rest. As a rule, keep the formicarium humid where the species needs it, out of direct sun, and feed what is provided plus a little sugar water. Rare species can have particular requirements, so read the instructions closely; if anything is unclear, message us with what you received and we will guide you.

The ants travel in a secure transport tube with moisture and food, and we have shipped thousands of colonies across Europe in seasonal thermal packaging, a heat pack in winter and a cool gel pack in summer. Delivery runs 1 to 2 days inside Poland (InPost); 2 to 3 days to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium (DHL); 3 to 5 days to France and the rest of the EU; 5 to 9 days to the UK; worldwide tracked and quoted at checkout. If anything arrives damaged or the queen does not survive transit, contact us and we will put it right.

Is the VIP Box suitable for a beginner?
No — it is built for experienced keepers. Rare species can have particular needs; the care instructions are always included, but this is not a first colony. Beginners should start with a standard kit or a smaller Mystery Box.

Can I request a specific species?

Is keeping ants like this cruel?
A queenless gel farm is the cruel version, because the workers die within weeks. A queen-led colony with the right food, humidity and space is the ethical way to keep ants, and every VIP Box is built that way.
