Grain Set S – Seed Food for Harvester Ants
The Grain Set S is a small-format tube of mixed seeds and grains formulated specifically for harvester ant species. Messor ants are granivores — they collect seeds, carry them into the nest, and mill them into a paste (known as ant bread) that serves as the primary protein source for larvae. Without a regular seed supply, Messor colonies cannot produce the nutrient-rich paste their brood requires for healthy development. The Grain Set provides a ready, balanced seed mix without the need to source individual grain types.

Which Size to Choose
The S tube suits small Messor colonies up to approximately 100–200 workers, or as a trial/supplement alongside a larger grain source. For colonies of 200–500 workers, the M tube is more practical — less frequent opening. For large established Messor colonies of 500+ workers with high seed consumption, choose the L tube.
How to Feed
Scatter seeds directly on the arena floor or in a small feeding dish. Workers will select, carry, and process seeds according to the colony’s needs. Do not place seeds inside the nest — uneaten seeds can mould in humid conditions. Remove any remaining seeds after 3–4 days and replace with fresh grain. Pair with a liquid carbohydrate source for a complete diet.
