When a harvester colony matures, its appetite outruns a small pack. Grain Set Large is the bulk quantity for established colonies of roughly 500 workers and up — the ones that clear a starter pack in a few days. The blend is millet, poppy, sesame, flax and other grains, the full natural diet of granivorous species such as Messor, Pogonomyrmex, Aphaenogaster and Veromessor. Workers husk the seed, fill granary chambers and mill it into the stored “ant bread” that feeds the brood. Natural seeds only, no chemical treatment. Why the blend still matters at scale
A mature colony holds the widest range of worker sizes, and that is exactly where a mixed blend earns its keep. The big-headed majors crack the toughest grains, the minors process the fine ones, and a varied mix keeps every caste supplied at once. The Large pack changes the quantity, not the recipe — it simply hands a hungry colony a long-running supply so you refill far less often through the active season.

Established harvester colonies of about 500 workers and up that consume seed quickly. If a small pack vanishes within the week, keep the Large pack on the shelf. For founding and growing colonies, the Small and Medium packs hold the identical blend in smaller amounts.
How to use it
Drop a pinch in the arena or by the nest entrance. Workers carry it to storage and mill it for the brood at their own pace. Clear old or damp seed before refilling so nothing moulds. Granivores ration their own intake, so a steady supply across the season keeps the granaries full without overfeeding.
Storage
Sealed and dry, the seeds keep well over a year. Moisture is the only real enemy — damp grain sprouts or moulds — so let the arena dry between refills and sweep up discarded husks. The nest handles its own granary hygiene inside.

Seed is the staple, but even a large colony takes a little sugar and protein, especially while rearing brood. Offer our carbohydrate jellies through the active brood phase and keep a drinking dish topped up. A roomy formicarium and a generous arena give a 500-plus colony space to forage and store.

No. A 500-plus colony has majors that handle even the toughest seeds. Crushing only helps very small founding colonies.

Do omnivorous ants eat this?
Rarely. Camponotus and Lasius prefer jelly and protein. Seeds are for granivores like Messor and Pogonomyrmex.
