The exact species, formicarium model, and accessories vary with every box. No two Mystery Boxes are identical.

If you are new to ant keeping and overwhelmed by the choices — species, formicarium size, accessories — a Mystery Box removes all the decision-making. We select a combination that works: a colony that suits the formicarium, food appropriate for the species, and accessories that complete the setup. You open the box and start immediately. No research, no configuration, no risk of choosing the wrong combination.

Opening a Mystery Box and discovering which species you have received — and watching that colony develop in a formicarium you did not choose yourself — is a different kind of experience than a standard kit. The S box is the most compact and affordable option — smaller formicarium, smaller colony, a selection of basic accessories. For a more complete and generous surprise package, the M, L, and XL boxes include larger formicaria, potentially rarer species, and a richer selection of additional items. All boxes guarantee at least one live colony and one matching formicarium.

Can I request a specific species or formicarium?
No — the Mystery Box is a surprise by design. If you want to choose your own species and formicarium, browse the species range and standard kits.

Is the colony appropriate for beginners?
Yes — we select species that are suitable for the experience level of the box size. The S box always includes a beginner-friendly species.

When does the colony ship?
The live colony ships separately from the equipment, timed for safe live delivery. You may receive two separate packages.
