Losing workers to standing water is among the easiest mistakes to prevent, and it hits tiny founding workers hardest. Because the profile is shallow and the wall sloped, ants never have to cling to a vertical face above a pool — they walk down to the liquid and out again. The transparent body reveals the level in a second, so refills happen before the dish runs dry, and the surface wipes clean without trapping stains or odours.

Reach for the Large if you would rather refill less often or you run a lively arena with plenty of foragers queueing at the dish. It covers the whole range of kept species, from a lone founding queen with her first nanitics to a well-established colony. Keeping several setups? Place the bowl in a corner, well away from the nest entrance, so any spill never reaches the brood. Fill it with clean water for everyday drinking, or switch to sugar water, diluted honey or liquid jelly. Rinse and refill on a regular cycle to keep the liquid fresh and stop mould or fermentation taking hold. The walk-in design needs no cotton or pebble, though one can be added to give the very smallest species an extra-shallow surface.

Will small ants drown in it?
No. The shallow walk-in shape lets even the smallest workers step in, drink and climb out.

Can I use it for food as well as water?
Yes. Clean water, sugar water, diluted honey and liquid jelly all work.
