Buy ESD anti-static tweezers from ANTonTOP – 15 cm, stainless steel, ESD-safe coating. The right tool for direct contact with ant eggs, larvae, and freshly eclosed workers. Standard metal tweezers can deliver a static discharge that damages or kills brood; ESD construction removes that risk entirely.
Compact 15 cm length for precise control inside small formicaria and nest sections. Easy to sterilise between species.

ESD Anti-Static Tweezers 15 cm – The Safest Way to Handle Ant Brood
ESD (electrostatic discharge) tweezers are built specifically to prevent static buildup during handling. For ant keeping, that matters whenever you are working with eggs, larvae, pupae, or freshly eclosed workers – life stages where a static discharge from standard metal tweezers can damage or kill the brood. ESD tweezers eliminate that risk. At 15 cm, they are compact enough for precise work inside small formicaria and nest sections.
Specifications
- Length: 15 cm
- Material: stainless steel with ESD-safe coating
- Tip: precision straight tip for delicate manipulation
- Anti-static: yes – safe for brood and sensitive materials
- Sterilisable: yes – wipe down with isopropyl alcohol
When to Use ESD Tweezers
Use them whenever you handle brood. Eggs, larvae, and pupae are the most static-sensitive life stages – a static spark you cannot feel is enough to disrupt a developing pupa or kill an egg. Also useful when working inside acrylic formicaria, where the acrylic itself can build static charge during dry winter months. For tasks like placing food, removing dead insects, or general arena cleanup, standard tweezers are fine; reserve the ESD pair for direct brood contact.
How to Use Them
Grip the tweezers near the joint, not at the tip – closer to the joint gives you finer pressure control. Approach the brood slowly. The aim is to lift, not pinch – apply just enough pressure to support the larva or pupa underneath, then transfer it to its destination. After use, wipe down with isopropyl alcohol before storing.
Compatibility
- Works inside all acrylic, gypsum, and ytong formicaria
- Pair with the angled-tip version (Anti-Static Angled) for tight corridors and corners
- Use alongside our magnifying loupe for precise inspection during brood transfer
Care & Maintenance
Wipe with isopropyl alcohol between sessions, especially when working with multiple colonies or species. Avoid harsh detergents that can degrade the ESD coating. Store dry. The tweezers will last for many years of regular use if kept clean and not bent at the tip.
What’s in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ESD actually do?
ESD (electrostatic discharge) coating prevents the build-up and sudden release of static electricity from the tool to whatever it touches. In ant keeping, that protects fragile brood from invisible static shocks during handling.
Are they sharp?
No – the tips are precision-shaped but not sharp. They are designed to grip without piercing. Safe to use directly on living brood.
Can I sterilise them in boiling water?
Avoid boiling. Use isopropyl alcohol wipe-down instead – boiling can damage the ESD coating over time. Alcohol gives equivalent disinfection without that risk.
Straight or angled – which should I buy?
Straight for open-arena work and flat-surface brood; angled for reaching into corners and curved formicarium corridors. Most keepers eventually buy both.
