Description

In dry winter air, acrylic formicaria hold a static charge, and a spark too small to feel can kill an egg or wreck a developing pupa. These 15 cm ESD tweezers drain that charge safely, so you can handle eggs, larvae and freshly eclosed workers without the risk ordinary metal carries. Stainless with an ESD-safe coating; sterilises with isopropyl alcohol.

Description

ESD anti-static tweezers 15 cm — the safest metal tweezers for handling ant brood

These 15 cm ESD (electrostatic discharge) tweezers are built to prevent static buildup while you handle brood. That matters most with eggs, larvae, pupae and freshly eclosed workers, where a static discharge from ordinary metal tweezers can damage or kill the brood. The stainless-steel body carries an ESD-safe coating, the precision straight tip handles delicate material, and at 15 cm they are compact enough for accurate work inside small formicaria and nest sections. They sterilise with a wipe of isopropyl alcohol between species. Ships from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery.

What ESD does and why it helps

The coating prevents static electricity from building on the tool and discharging into whatever it touches. In dry winter conditions acrylic formicaria can hold a charge, and a spark too small to feel is enough to disrupt a developing pupa or kill an egg. The tips are precision-shaped but not sharp, so they grip without piercing and are safe to use directly on living brood.

Who it’s for

Keepers who handle brood directly — moving eggs, larvae and pupae between containers, or relocating freshly eclosed workers before their cuticle hardens. It is also worth having for anyone keeping acrylic formicaria through a dry winter, when static charge is most likely. For routine jobs like placing food or removing dead insects, standard tweezers are fine; save the ESD pair for direct brood contact.

How to use them

Grip near the joint, not at the tip, for finer pressure control. Approach the brood slowly with the aim of lifting rather than pinching: apply just enough pressure to support the larva or pupa underneath, then transfer it at the same height. Wipe the tips with isopropyl alcohol before storing, especially when working across several colonies or species.

Care and maintenance

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol between sessions rather than boiling, which can degrade the ESD coating over time, while an alcohol wipe disinfects just as well without the risk. Avoid harsh detergents that attack the coating. Store dry and keep the tip from being bent, and they will last many years.

Pairs well with

The angled-tip anti-static tweezers for reaching into corners and curved corridors. A magnifying loupe for inspection during a brood transfer. A glass founding tube and a heating mat for the founding stage, where careful brood handling matters most. Soft or ultra-soft tweezers when you want a padded tip for the very softest material.

FAQ

What does ESD actually do?
The coating stops static electricity from building up and discharging from the tool into whatever it touches. In ant keeping, that protects fragile brood from invisible static shocks during handling.

Are they sharp?
No. The tips are precision-shaped but not sharp, so they grip without piercing and are safe directly on living brood.

Can I sterilise them in boiling water?
Avoid boiling, which can degrade the ESD coating over time. Use an isopropyl alcohol wipe instead — it disinfects just as well.

Straight or angled — which should I buy?
Straight for open-arena work and flat-surface brood; angled for corners and curved corridors. Most keepers eventually buy both.

How long are they?
15 cm — compact enough for precise work inside small formicaria and nest sections.

Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We dispatch from Poland with tracked delivery across the EU, the UK and worldwide.

A note on care: each item is built for a specific job — please use it only as intended. Responsibility for correct, safe use rests with the keeper; ANTonTOP accepts no liability for misuse or damage from improper use.
