‘Big Ben’ is technically the nickname for the largest of the five bells inside the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, but most people use the name for the whole tower. The tower itself was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Completed in 1859, the clock was the largest and most accurate four-faced striking clock in the world. The tower stands 96 m tall; the clock faces are 7 m in diameter; the bell weighs 13.7 tonnes.
