Description
Give a founding or compact colony one fixed place for its midden. The small arena waste bin (4 × 3.5 × 3 cm, 3D-printed blue) does exactly that: once adopted, dead workers and food remains collect inside it instead of scattering across the floor, turning a clean-out into a 30-second lift. Scaled for arenas from roughly 15 × 15 cm up.
Keep your arena clean without disturbing the nest.

Small ant arena waste bin (4 × 3.5 × 3 cm) — concentrate the colony’s midden in one spot
Many ant species keep a designated midden, a waste pile away from the nest. The small arena waste bin, 3D-printed in blue at 4 × 3.5 × 3 cm, encourages that habit where you want it. Once the colony adopts it, dead workers, food remains and debris collect almost entirely in the bin, so cleaning is a 30-second lift rather than a full arena sweep. The compact footprint suits small-to-medium colonies and arenas from roughly 15 × 15 cm upward. Shipped from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery from ANTonTOP.
Why a fixed waste bin works
Left alone, ants scatter corpses and food waste across the arena floor, and that’s where mould, grain mites and fungus gnats take hold. A single container in the natural waste zone pulls all of it into one spot you remove in seconds, with little disturbance to the colony. The result is a cleaner arena, fewer pests, and a clear view of the nest.
Who it’s for
Keepers with compact arenas (roughly up to 20 × 20 cm) and smaller worker counts — founding and early-growth colonies, smaller species, and anyone running a tidy desktop setup. For larger colonies or bigger arenas where workers carry out bulkier remains, the medium bin (5 × 3 × 2.5 cm, green) has a wider opening and suits arenas from about 30 cm wide.
How to train your ants to use it
Place the bin in the far corner of the arena, away from the nest entrance, since ants deposit waste away from the living area. To speed things up, drop the first few pieces of arena waste in yourself, such as a dead worker or a piece of prey shell. Within a few days the colony reads the spot as the waste zone and uses it consistently. Established colonies adopt faster than founding ones; some small or low-worker species take a little longer to settle into the habit.
Care and maintenance
Lift the bin out with tweezers, tip the contents into your waste, and wipe it with isopropyl alcohol before returning it. Use a soft cloth, not an abrasive scourer, so the surface stays smooth. Most keepers empty and wipe weekly, which keeps mould and mites out of the arena. For fast-filling colonies, rinse and dry it fully between uses so leftovers don’t ferment.
Pairs well with
Long-reach 20 cm tweezers for quick weekly removal without reaching into the colony’s space. The medium arena waste bin if you also run a larger setup. A magnifying loupe for close inspection of the arena.
FAQ
Will every species use it?
Most do, especially strong midden-builders like Camponotus, Messor, Lasius and Formica. Some small or low-worker species may take longer to adopt it.
How do I empty it?
Lift it out with tweezers, tap the contents into your waste, wipe it down with alcohol if needed, and return it. Most keepers do this weekly.
What size arena does it suit?
Compact arenas from roughly 15 × 15 cm up to about 20 × 20 cm. For larger arenas, choose the medium bin (5 × 3 × 2.5 cm).
Can I get other colours?
The small bin is blue and the medium is green; the colours code the size. We don’t offer custom colours — the colour doesn’t affect ant behaviour, only keeper preference.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We dispatch from Poland with tracked delivery across the EU, the UK and worldwide.
