About This Landmark

The Porte Saint-Denis is a triumphal arch on the Right Bank in Paris, built in 1672 to commemorate Louis XIV’s victories on the Rhine. Designed by architect François Blondel and sculptor Michel Anguier, it stands 24 m tall and replaced a medieval gate that had stood since the 14th century. It is the older of two surviving Parisian triumphal arches (the other is the Porte Saint-Martin nearby). The Arc de Triomphe was inspired by it more than a century later.

When to Use

Place in the open arena. It works in arenas of all sizes – even compact acrylic setups like the Ziom or Comfort, right up to large terrariums. Looks especially striking against contrasting substrate. Larger colonies often adopt it as a route or perch.
