Anti-Static Tweezers — Straight Fine Tip

Eggs, larvae and pupae are the most static-sensitive life stages, and in dry winter air acrylic and metal build a charge that discharges into whatever they touch. A spark you cannot feel is enough to disrupt a developing pupa or kill an egg. The anti-static treatment removes that risk, which is what separates this pair from ordinary precision tweezers. The tip is still firm metal, though, and under heavy grip it can damage very fragile larvae, so for the softest material (eggs, L1 larvae) ultra-soft tweezers are the safer tool.

The straight tip is best for direct, forward-facing work: brood on a flat surface, food placement, and open arenas. For tighter angles, corners and curved formicarium corridors, the angled-tip version reaches more comfortably. Both are anti-static and brood-safe, and most keepers eventually own both. If you are buying just one to start, choose straight, since it handles roughly 80% of everyday tasks.

Grip near the joint rather than at the tip for the finest pressure control. Approach brood flat-on, slide the straight tip underneath, and lift with the lightest pressure you can manage, since the aim is to support, not pinch. Keep your hand outside the formicarium and let only the working end enter. Wipe the tips with isopropyl alcohol before and after handling brood, especially when moving between colonies.

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol between sessions and store dry. Avoid harsh detergents that may degrade the anti-static treatment. The stainless body is durable and the anti-static coating lasts for years of regular use if kept clean.

Both have anti-static protection. The ESD tweezers are longer (15 cm) and marketed specifically for electrostatic-discharge work; this pair is compact and tip-focused. For practical ant keeping, either works on brood.

Straight or angled — which first?
Start with straight if you have only one; it handles about 80% of use cases. Add the angled version later for tight-space work.

Are they safe for the softest brood?
They are brood-safe, but the tip is still firm metal. For eggs and L1/L2 larvae, ultra-soft tweezers with padded tips are gentler.

Can I sterilise them?
Yes — wipe the tips with isopropyl alcohol between sessions. Avoid harsh detergents that can degrade the anti-static finish.
