A miniature stone tower of the type that stood in medieval fortifications across Europe from the 11th to the 14th century. Square or round, with crenelated tops, these towers served as defensive strongpoints – providing height for archers and acting as last-stand refuges if the outer walls fell. The form was refined into the keep (the central tower of a castle) and survives in countless medieval ruins today.
