Description

Stonehenge in resin — the trilithon circle of standing stones, uprights and lintels, at 5 × 2 × 2 cm. The open archways are the point: ants thread through the gaps and shelter beneath the stones instead of just walking over them. Inert resin, safe in direct contact.

Description

Stonehenge miniature — resin standing-stone decoration for ant arenas and formicariums

The archways are why this one beats a solid statue for keeping ants busy. Stonehenge’s trilithons — paired uprights capped with lintels — leave open gaps the colony can walk through and shaded undersides it can gather beneath, so the ants interact with the piece instead of only crossing it. At 5 × 2 × 2 cm it is long and low, hugging the arena floor and leaving head-room clear, which makes it a natural fit for wider outworlds. The resin is inert and food-safe, so the colony climbs and shelters freely.

What the colony does with it

Gaps and shade, mostly. Foragers take the lintels as raised routes and the shaded stones as resting spots out of the open arena. Larger species like Camponotus and Polyrhachis use it most, but even smaller colonies will thread the arches — the open form invites it in a way a closed model doesn’t. It looks best against contrast, dark stone over pale sand or the reverse.

Fits your setup

Any arena 20 × 20 cm or larger takes it, from a compact Ziom or Comfort up to a planted terrarium, and the wide footprint suits longer layouts. Set it toward the centre or back where the arches show, bed the bases lightly into the substrate, and leave room for foraging and a feeding spot. Clean with a damp cloth or a rinse, then air-dry before returning it.

About the landmark

Stonehenge was raised in stages between roughly 3000 and 2000 BC on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. The largest sarsens weigh up to 25 tonnes and came from quarries about 25 km off; the smaller bluestones travelled over 200 km from Wales, and how Neolithic builders moved them is still argued. The circle aligns with the summer-solstice sunrise and the winter-solstice sunset, which points to astronomical and ritual use.

Pairs well with

Quartz sand and decorative stones for the floor, moss stones for a biotope look, and the rest of the landmark range for a themed collection. Add a drinker and ant jelly to complete the outworld.
