Description
Most formicaria hand the colony pre-made rooms. The TerraCore Pro hands it a workable DigFix substrate and lets it excavate its own tunnels and chambers, the way ants build underground. Self-contained 26 × 12 × 20 cm acrylic setup with a 21 × 10 × 3 cm DigFix nest, integrated arena and universal 14 mm port. Capacity ~400–800 ants, beginner-friendly, made in Poland and ready from day one.
Let the colony dig the nest it actually wants.

Formicarium TerraCore Pro — a natural DigFix nest the colony digs itself
Watch a colony build its own home. This DigFix formicarium fills its nest section with a porous, workable digging medium, and the ants tunnel their own chambers into it instead of moving into ready-made rooms. The result is a living nest the colony shapes itself, with an integrated arena built in. The TerraCore Pro is self-contained and ready from day one, in an escape-resistant acrylic frame measuring 26 × 12 × 20 cm, made in Poland, for keepers who would rather see real underground behaviour than a fixed chamber layout. Ships from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery and a live arrival guarantee.

Why the digging nest works, and who it’s for
Digging is one of the most natural things ants do, and most formicaria never let them. The Pro does: the colony carves its own tunnels into the DigFix substrate, so every nest is unique and the architecture keeps changing as the colony grows, about as close to a wild nest as a viewable formicarium gets. It suits colonies of roughly 400–800 workers, especially species that naturally dig and tunnel, and keepers who find pre-made acrylic chambers a little clinical. Beginner-friendly to run and self-contained, so there is nothing to assemble first.
Humidity and care
The DigFix substrate holds the moisture. Before you introduce the colony, wet it thoroughly; the damp, porous medium is soft enough to excavate yet firm enough to hold its shape, so the colony digs a stable tunnel network. Re-wet it as it dries through the service lid or port, and the damp medium keeps the tunnels humid from inside, with no separate sponge chamber. The arena and frame allow steady airflow, so keep the substrate damp but not waterlogged. A smaller colony digs a modest system at first and expands it as numbers grow, so let them work at their own pace. Spot-clean the arena, the frame wipes down easily, and remove leftover food promptly.
Setup and escape protection
The Pro is self-contained and ready from day one: wet the DigFix substrate, connect a tube through the universal 14 mm port if joining an outworld, and introduce the colony. The escape-resistant acrylic frame and dual-lid keep the colony secure, and the service lid lets you feed and water without opening the whole nest. The integrated arena gives the colony a clean foraging space; add a little sand, a stone or some moss to finish it, kept light for easy feeding.
Pairs well with
Pair the Pro with a drinking dish, protein and carbohydrate jelly, and soft tweezers. The universal 14 mm rotating adapter fits most tube sizes, so you add an extra arena or nest when the colony needs more space while the dug tunnel network stays the heart of the setup.
FAQ
What is the DigFix system?
A workable substrate the colony digs its own tunnels into — natural nesting the ants build themselves, not pre-made chambers.
How do I set it up?
Wet the DigFix substrate thoroughly, then introduce the colony. It is self-contained and ready from day one.
How does humidity work?
The damp substrate holds the moisture; re-wet it as it dries through the service lid or port, with no separate sponge.
How big a colony does it suit?
Roughly 400–800 ants, especially species that naturally dig and tunnel.
Can I connect more space?
Yes — a universal 14 mm rotating port fits most tube sizes for extra arenas or nests.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. We dispatch within 24 h from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery, and a live arrival guarantee on colonies.
