Description
Vivid sky-blue gravel, the range’s deliberate splash of colour. The 1.5–8 mm mixed grade adds clean texture and a distinct identity to the floor. Inert, washed, colony-safe, colour fixed so it won’t bleed when sprayed. One 8×4×2 cm bag tops a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena. Pair with white or turquoise sand for ocean and sky scenes.
Drop in a splash of blue and the floor reads as water.

Blue decorative stones for ant arenas
Blue is unusual in ant keeping, and that is the appeal: it reads as a deliberate design choice, not natural ground. The shade is a clean, vivid sky-blue. The grade is a mixed 1.5–8 mm natural stone, dyed and washed, chunkier than sand and finished with the same non-toxic colour-fixing as our quartz range. Supplied in an 8×4×2 cm bag, shipped from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery, and safe in direct contact with the colony.
What the splash does
These are decor stones, not tunnelling substrate. The mixed grain catches light and breaks up a flat sand floor, giving a display arena a finished, deliberate look. Because the colour is bonded to the stone, spraying or rinsing won’t bleed blue into the water dish or stain the acrylic. Reach for it where you want a chunkier texture and a stronger visual identity than fine sand alone can give.
Who it suits
Display keepers building themed arenas (ocean, sky, river and beach looks) and anyone who wants an eye-catching accent colour that stays put. Because blue is rare in this hobby, it signals a designed scene at a glance.
How to use it
Scatter about 0.5–1 cm over fine sand for a top accent, or run a strip as a path or border between zones. The grain is too large for ants to tunnel, so it sits on top while the colony still digs in the sand beneath. Combine it with white or turquoise quartz sand for a convincing water-and-sky scene.
Pairs well with
White and turquoise quartz sand for ocean and sky themes, our other decorative-stone colours for layered schemes, and our miniature landmarks. A path of blue stones leading to a feeding zone or formicarium entrance makes for a tidy, guided layout.
FAQ
Is the colour safe for ants?
Yes. The non-toxic dye is fixed to the stone and safe in direct contact with the colony.
Will it bleed if the arena is sprayed?
No. The colour is bonded to each stone, so misting and rinsing don’t transfer it.
Will ants dig in it?
No. The 1.5–8 mm grain is too large to tunnel. Use it over a sand layer the ants can dig in.
How much does one bag cover?
The 8×4×2 cm bag covers roughly a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena as a top accent layer.
Can I combine it with other colours?
Yes. Pair it with other decorative-stone colours or quartz sand for layered, themed scenes.
