Place the container in the arena, in the far corner from the nest entrance — the natural midden zone for most species. To kickstart adoption, drop the first few pieces of waste (a dead worker, a fragment of insect prey) inside the bin yourself. Within a few days the colony recognises the location and starts using it consistently. Mature colonies adopt faster than founding colonies, because the midden behaviour is already established.

The medium bin (this product) is sized for arenas 30 cm wide and up, and for colonies with hundreds to thousands of workers carrying out medium-sized food remains (cricket parts, jelly cup fragments). For compact arenas and smaller colonies, the Small Arena Waste Bin (4×3.5×3 cm, blue) is the better fit.

One bin or two for a large colony?
For colonies of several thousand workers spread over a long arena, two bins (one at each end) get adopted faster and reduce overflow. Otherwise one is enough.

How often should I empty it?
Weekly for active colonies. If the bin fills faster than that, the colony is healthy and well-fed — consider adding a second one.

Why green and not other colour?
The small bin is blue, the medium is green — colour-coding makes it easy to identify by size at a glance. Ants do not care about the colour.
