Roman Pantheon miniature — domed temple resin decoration for ant arenas and formicaria
The Roman Pantheon is among the larger and more imposing landmarks we stock — 7 × 5 × 2.5 cm of domed circular temple fronted by a Corinthian portico — and its wide footprint makes it the natural anchor of a classical-Rome arena rather than an accent in the corner. The rounded dome is a broad climbing surface and the columned portico creates sheltered gaps, so the colony has two distinct kinds of terrain to work.
What the colony does with it
The dome gives a wide, sloping surface to climb and rest on; the portico gives shaded gaps between columns to gather in. Ants explore the whole model and often adopt it as a route or perch. Larger arboreal species like Camponotus and Polyrhachis use it most, claiming the dome. The resin is inert with no harmful coatings, safe in direct contact. It reads well against contrast — pale sand below the darker resin, or the reverse.
Fits your setup
Any arena format from roughly 20 × 20 cm upward takes it, from a compact Ziom or Comfort up to a large terrarium, though its 7 cm length shows off best in a mid-size or larger arena. Stand it on the substrate as a centrepiece where the dome and portico face the viewer, leave room for foragers to circle, and keep feeding spots clear. Clean with a damp cloth or a rinse, then air-dry before returning it.
About the landmark
Emperor Hadrian rebuilt the Pantheon around 126 AD over an earlier temple by Marcus Agrippa, whose name still sits in the portico inscription. Its dome, 43.3 m wide, was the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world for 1,300 years and is still the largest of its kind. The oculus — the 9 m opening at the crown — is the dome’s only light. The building has been in continuous use since antiquity, becoming a church in the 7th century, which is why it survived where other Roman temples fell.
Pairs well with
Quartz sand and decorative stones for the base, moss stones for a biotope look, and the rest of the landmark range — set it beside the Roman Colosseum or Greek Temple Ruins miniatures for a classical-world arena.
