Description
Terracotta-volcanic gravel the colour of sun-baked desert rock. The 1.5–8 mm mixed grade adds texture and an earthy, natural warmth rather than a bright artificial pop. Inert, washed, colony-safe, with the colour fixed so it won’t bleed when sprayed. One 8×4×2 cm bag tops a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena. Made for canyon, desert and volcanic builds.
Layer it with warm sand for a desert-sunset floor.

Orange decorative stones for ant arenas
Orange sits between the warmth of yellow and the punch of red, with a terracotta-volcanic tone that looks like sun-baked rock. The grade is a mixed 1.5–8 mm natural stone, dyed and washed, chunkier than sand and finished with the same non-toxic colour-fixing as our quartz range. It is supplied in an 8×4×2 cm bag, shipped from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery, and safe in direct contact with the colony.
What the earthy tone does
These are decor stones, not tunnelling substrate. The warm orange reads as volcanic rock and sandstone, an earthy colour rather than a bright one, and the mixed grain breaks up a flat floor with texture. Because the colour is bonded to the stone, spraying or rinsing the arena won’t bleed it into the water dish or stain the acrylic. Layered with warm sands, it builds a convincing desert-sunset effect.
Who it suits
Keepers building desert, canyon and volcanic arenas, and anyone who wants a warm, natural accent instead of an artificial one. It leans into dry-climate themes and sits naturally alongside orange, yellow and red sand.
How to use it
Scatter about 0.5–1 cm over fine sand for a top accent, or run a strip as a path or border between zones. The grain is too large for ants to tunnel, so it rests on top while the colony digs in the sand beneath. For a canyon trail, lay a rocky path across a sand floor.
Pairs well with
Orange, yellow and red quartz sand for desert and canyon themes, our miniature desert and pyramid landmarks, and other decorative-stone colours for layered scenes.
FAQ
Is the colour safe for ants?
Yes. The non-toxic dye is fixed to the stone and safe in direct contact with the colony.
Will it bleed if the arena is sprayed?
No. The colour is bonded to each stone, so misting and rinsing don’t transfer it.
Will ants dig in it?
No. The 1.5–8 mm grain is too large to tunnel. Use it over a sand layer the ants can dig in.
How much does one bag cover?
The 8×4×2 cm bag covers roughly a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena as a top accent layer.
Can I combine it with other colours?
Yes. Pair it with other decorative-stone colours or quartz sand for layered, themed scenes.
