Why the small round shape works
At this size the bowl holds barely more than a film of water, and the sloped wall runs grip all the way round with no corner to trap a worker. It will not foul a test-tube nest the way a cotton plug does once it starts to mould, and watering a young colony stops being the thing that costs you ants.

The Small round bowl (⌀≈2 cm) is made for founding colonies, test tubes, nano arenas and the first weeks of any new colony. When numbers climb and the colony moves to a bigger outworld, step up to the Round Drinking Bowl Large (⌀≈4 cm) for more drinking edge, or add a square Type 2 dish.
How to use it
Sit it in the outworld a little away from the nest entrance so the living area stays dry. A few drops of clean water cover hydration; for feeding, use sugar water, diluted honey or liquid jelly. Refresh it every couple of days. It is fully reusable.
Pairs well with
Stand a small cup of Flavoured Ant Jelly beside it for carbohydrate and add Blanched Whole Crickets or Cricket Jam for protein as the brood develops. Move up to the Round Drinking Bowl Large or a Type 2 dish when the colony does.
