Long-reach tweezers 20 cm — stainless-steel everyday tweezers for ant keepers
This 20 cm stainless-steel pair is the everyday workhorse of ant keeping. The extra length reaches into deep arenas and formicaria without your hand entering the enclosure, so feeding, cleaning and rearranging stay calm and low-disturbance. Use them to place insect prey and food, lift out dead workers and prey shells, reposition décor and hydration chambers, and handle individual ants when you need to. The stainless steel is rust-resistant and easy to disinfect, and the straight precision tip keeps placement accurate. Ships from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery.
Why 20 cm is the versatile size
20 cm is the size most keepers use day to day. It is long enough to reach comfortably into a 20 × 20 cm arena without disturbing the colony, and short enough to stay precise. Shorter tweezers force your hand close to active foragers; much longer ones lose control. At 20 cm you get the balance that suits feeding, cleaning and arena work.
Who it’s for
Every keeper, as a first general-purpose tool and the pair you reach for most. It handles feeding, cleaning and arena work: placing prey or food, removing food remains and dead workers, and moving décor, cotton and hydration chambers. For direct contact with living brood, switch to soft, ultra-soft or ESD tweezers. This stainless precision pair is not meant for fragile larvae and pupae.
How to use them
Hold near the joint for the steadiest control and lower the tweezers in from above, keeping your hand outside the enclosure. Use the straight tip to place food, lift out dead workers and prey shells, and reposition cotton or décor. Work slowly near active foragers so you do not trap a worker against the tip, and wipe the tip with isopropyl alcohol when you finish.
Care and maintenance
Wipe with isopropyl alcohol between species. Stainless steel tolerates boiling, dishwashers and detergents, so deeper cleaning is easy when you need it. Store dry, and they will last many years.
Pairs well with
A magnifying loupe for close-up arena inspection while you work. Our feeding range for clean food placement. Soft or ultra-soft tweezers for the brood handling these are not meant for. An arena waste bin, which you can empty quickly with the 20 cm reach.
FAQ
Can I use these for brood handling?
Not recommended. The straight metal tip can damage larvae and pupae under normal grip pressure. For brood, use soft, ultra-soft or ESD tweezers instead.
Are they magnetic?
Slightly — stainless steel is weakly magnetic, which is not an issue for ant keeping.
How do I sterilise them?
Boil for 10 minutes or wipe down with isopropyl alcohol. Both work; boiling is more thorough, alcohol is faster.
How far do they reach?
Comfortably into most arena formats, including a 20 × 20 cm arena, without your hand entering the enclosure.
Will they rust?
No. Stainless steel is rust-resistant and easy to clean. Just store them dry.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. We dispatch from Poland with tracked delivery across the EU, the UK and worldwide.
