Description

Fifty centimetres of nest, end to end (50 × 17 × 8 cm). The Giant XL is the longest standard acrylic nest we make, built for a mature colony of 1,500–2,400 workers and topped with 20 mm chambers that clear the biggest worker castes. A full-length 50 cm arena spreads the whole society into one view: nurseries, food stores, refuse piles and foraging trails at once.

Description

Formicarium Giant XL — the longest standard acrylic ant nest for a panoramic colony view

This acrylic ant nest is the long one: at a full 50 cm (50 × 17 × 8 cm) the Giant XL is the largest standard acrylic formicarium ANTonTOP makes, and it spreads a mature colony out into one long view. Foragers running real trails and brood across chamber after chamber lay out along its length rather than in a small block. The 20 mm chambers house even the biggest worker castes, and the full-length 50 × 10 × 8 cm arena gives a large foraging force somewhere to go. Laser-cut from 3 mm acrylic in Poland and shipped with tracked EU and worldwide delivery.

Why length works

With a really large colony, a tall block of chambers hides as much as it shows. Spread the same colony across 50 cm and the full division of labour opens up: where the brood is kept, where seeds or prey are stored, where the refuse goes, which trail the foragers favour today. The 20 mm chambers fit the biggest workers without crowding. This is not a founding nest, so if your colony is still building, start it in part of the nest and open the rest as it grows.

Humidity and care

Add water to the internal sponge through the 3 mm port with a syringe once or twice a week; it travels by capillary action between the layered sheets, holding an even moisture gradient the colony can read for itself, never wetting the ants. Top up before the sponge dries and avoid flooding. Laser-cut micro-perforations run the full length of arena and nest for continuous airflow without drafts, so clear leftover food promptly to keep condensation and mold off the long panes.

Setup and escape protection

The Giant XL arrives clean and ready. Peel the protective film from both faces for clear walls, connect a tube if joining an outworld, fill the humidity chamber and populate. The fitted lid and arena walls hold workers in; for tiny or climbing species, a thin band of anti-escape fluid around the arena rim adds security.

Pairs well with

Several drinking dishes for a large foraging force, protein and carbohydrate jelly for balanced feeding, soft tweezers for brood and food, and a syringe for watering. When even 50 cm fills up, tubing links a second arena or another nest from our formicaria range. Dress the long arena with sand, stones or moss, leaving clear paths so feeding and cleaning stay easy.
