United States Capitol Miniature

A bold piece of architecture sets the theme and adds surface to climb and forage. The dome stands out against pale or dark substrate equally well, and larger colonies often take to it as a regular route or perch rather than walking past.

Set it in the open arena with room to walk around it. It works from compact acrylic outworlds like the Ziom or Comfort up to large terrariums, and shows best against contrasting sand so the silhouette stands out; moss stones soften it toward a biotope feel. Wipe with a damp cloth, or rinse under running water if soiled — the resin is waterproof. Avoid harsh detergents and long direct sun, then air-dry before it goes back.

The Capitol in Washington DC houses the US Congress. Construction began in 1793 under George Washington; British troops burned the original building in 1814, and it was rebuilt. The current cast-iron dome, 88 m tall, was finished in 1866 at Lincoln’s insistence as a sign the Union would hold, and the Statue of Freedom on top stands 6 m and weighs 6.8 tonnes.
