Description
Heavy drinkers such as Camponotus and tropical ants burn through water fast, and the Drinking Bowl Type 2 Large keeps pace: roughly 4 × 4 cm of shallow, 3D-printed dish with a textured floor for grip and a film of water held by surface tension. Workers of every size drink and walk out dry. It doubles as a feed dish for sugar water, diluted honey or liquid jelly. Colours are assorted, so the shade may differ from the photo.
Give a thirsty colony all the water it can reach safely.

Drinking Bowl Type 2 Large — 3D-printed ant water and feed dish (≈4 × 4 cm)
The Type 2 Large is the big square dish for colonies that drink hard, roughly 4 × 4 cm and 3D-printed. It settles the oldest problem in ant keeping: how to keep a colony in fresh water without losing foragers to a deep dish or a sodden cotton plug. A thin film sits in the base, held by surface tension, and the low rim and gentle slope let ants step in, drink and walk back out, so watering becomes a daily routine rather than a gamble. Made in Europe and shipped from Poland, with tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide.

Why the textured walk-in floor works
Deep cups drown workers and a wet cotton ball turns mouldy. The floor here is textured 3D print rather than smooth glass, so even a tiny callow worker grips on the way out where a polished surface would let it slip.
Who it’s for
The Large suits growing and established colonies, busier outworlds and heavy drinkers such as Camponotus and many tropical ants. For a young founding colony or a nano setup, the Small (≈2 × 2 cm) or Medium (≈3 × 3 cm) Type 2 fits a tighter space. Plenty of keepers run two: a small one inside a test-tube setup, a larger one in the main arena.
How to use it
Stand the bowl in a corner, away from the nest entrance, so the area around the colony stays dry. Fill with clean water day to day, or use the same dish for sugar water, diluted honey or melted liquid jelly. Rinse and refill every couple of days to keep it fresh. It is reusable for the life of the colony.
Pairs well with
Drop a cup of our Flavoured Ant Jelly beside it for carbohydrate and add Blanched Whole Crickets or Cricket Jam for protein, and one corner becomes a complete feeding station. The round drinking bowls and the smaller Type 2 sizes cover the rest of your setups.
FAQ
Will small ants drown in it?
No. The floor is shallow and the walls slope, so even the smallest workers drink and climb back out — far safer than a deep dish or a water-soaked cotton plug.
Can I put food in it as well as water?
Yes. It doubles as a feed dish for sugar water, diluted honey or liquid jelly. For solid jelly cups, set the cup on top or beside it.
Which size should I choose?
Large (≈4 × 4 cm) for established colonies and bigger arenas; the Small or Medium for founding colonies and nano setups.
Why might the colour differ from the photo?
We print these in assorted colours and ship what is in stock. The shade varies; the performance does not.
Is the plastic safe for ants?
Yes, a durable ant-safe plastic with no coatings that leach into water. Rinse before first use.
How do I clean it?
Rinse under warm water and wipe out residue. Avoid harsh detergents, or rinse thoroughly if you use any.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. Dispatched from Poland within 24 hours with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery.
