Description
Ants are strict organisers — brood in one place, food near the entrance, waste far away — and the bigger the colony, the stricter it gets. The Ivory L (20 × 20 × 7 cm) hands a 500–1200-worker colony the enclosed square rooms to do exactly that, linked by corridors, with five humidity chambers and four-stage latch expansion for a stable climate and controlled growth. Cast gypsum holds deep, even humidity; chambers run 10–15 mm.

Formicarium Ivory L — a large box-room gypsum ant nest for established colonies
A big colony separates its functions on a big scale: nurseries kept well away from waste, food stores near the entrance, the queen in her own quarters. This large box-room gypsum ant nest is built to let it. The Ivory L (20 × 20 × 7 cm) scales enclosed-room architecture up to a genuinely large footprint — square rooms joined by corridors that a 500–1200-worker colony divides into clear zones, with cast gypsum and five humidity chambers holding an even climate across the whole 20 × 20 cm nest. The 10–15 mm chambers suit established colonies that like structured, zoned nests. Acrylic body, cast-gypsum interior, made in Poland and shipped with tracked EU and worldwide delivery.

Why the box-room layout works
Many enclosed rooms give a large colony somewhere distinct to dedicate to brood, food and quarters, rather than one open space it has to subdivide for itself. Five humidity chambers hold every corner at a steady moisture, and the clear acrylic body lets you watch a large colony build its structure in plain view. The four latches open the nest in stages, so even at this size keep the colony in as little space as possible at first and open rooms as it grows.
Humidity and care
Fill the five humidity chambers and the gypsum wicks moisture into the surrounding rooms, holding an even gradient the colony can choose from. Top up the water every few days; the stone keeps the climate stable with none of the condensation swings of sealed acrylic. Avoid over-watering, clear leftover food promptly, and leave a waterer empty for a day if a room gets too damp. The breathable stone wipes down easily, so spot-clean the arena rather than disturbing the colony.
Setup and escape protection
The Ivory L arrives clean and ready. Rinse the gypsum, let it take up water, connect a tube if joining an outworld, and populate — no curing, no fuss. The fitted lid and arena walls keep workers contained; for tiny or climbing species, a thin band of anti-escape fluid around the arena rim adds security. The sliding partition closes the integrated arena off while you feed or maintain.
Pairs well with
A drinking dish or feeding plate keeps food off the substrate, protein and carbohydrate jelly covers balanced nutrition, and soft tweezers keep feeding clean. The 10 mm tube port connects a second arena or a modular nest from our formicaria range as the colony grows. Dress the arena with sand, a stone or moss — keep it easy to feed and clean.
FAQ
How big a colony does the Ivory L suit?
Roughly 500–1200 workers — established mid-to-large colonies.
What is the box-room layout for?
Separate enclosed rooms let the colony assign zones — brood, food, queen — naturally, which keeps the nest tidy.
How often do I add water?
Usually every few days; top up the five humidity chambers and let the gypsum spread the moisture.
What are the four latches for?
They open the nest in four stages so the colony is never given more space than it can manage.
Can I connect more space?
Yes — through the 10 mm tube port, add an arena or modular nest anytime.
How is it shipped?
Dispatched in 24 h from Poland with tracked EU and worldwide delivery, year-round with heat or cool packs and a live arrival guarantee.
