Description

Give a digging colony real depth and it builds down. The TerraCore Pro XL runs 7 cm of DigFix substrate, more than double the Pro’s 3 cm, so the ants excavate deeper tunnels and proper multi-level chambers, with room to keep developing for years. A wider 26 × 12 × 9.5 cm arena handles the foraging of a bigger colony. Self-contained 26 × 12 × 20 cm acrylic, universal 14 mm port, capacity ~400–800 ants, beginner-friendly, made in Poland.

Description

Formicarium TerraCore Pro XL — a deeper DigFix nest the colony digs itself

This DigFix formicarium gives a digging colony 7 cm of substrate to excavate, more than double the Pro’s 3 cm, so it sinks deeper tunnels and builds proper multi-level chamber systems instead of a shallow surface network. The integrated arena is wider too, at 26 × 12 × 9.5 cm, for the heavier foraging of a larger colony, and the whole thing is self-contained in an escape-resistant acrylic frame measuring 26 × 12 × 20 cm, made in Poland. It ships from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery and a live arrival guarantee on colonies.

Why the depth works

Digging colonies do not stop at a shallow layer. Given the room, they build down. The 7 cm of DigFix lets a colony excavate the deeper tunnels and richer chamber systems the Pro’s 3 cm cannot, so you watch a real three-dimensional nest take shape. A smaller colony starts with a modest dig and extends it downward as it grows.

Who it’s for

The Pro XL suits colonies of roughly 400–800 workers, especially digging species that make the most of deeper substrate. Choose it over the standard Pro when you want maximum depth and a wider arena from the start, or when your species naturally builds deep. It is beginner-friendly to run and self-contained, so there is nothing to assemble first.

Humidity and care

The DigFix substrate holds the moisture, so wet it thoroughly before you introduce the colony. The damp, porous medium is soft enough to excavate yet firm enough to hold its shape, giving the colony a stable tunnel network and keeping it humid from inside with no separate sponge. Re-wet it through the service lid or port as it dries, keeping it damp but not waterlogged; the arena and frame allow steady airflow so the nest stays fresh. Spot-clean the arena, clear leftover food promptly, and wipe the acrylic frame down to keep the dug tunnels on full view.

Setup and escape protection

Self-contained and ready from day one: wet the DigFix substrate, connect a tube through the universal 14 mm port if you are joining an outworld, and introduce the colony. The escape-resistant acrylic frame and dual-lid keep the colony secure, and the service lid lets you feed and water without opening the whole nest. Finish the wide integrated arena with a little sand, a stone or some moss, kept light for easy feeding.

Pairs well with

Pair the Pro XL with a drinking dish, protein and carbohydrate jelly, and soft tweezers. The universal 14 mm rotating adapter fits most tube sizes, so you can add an extra arena or nest when the colony needs more space.

FAQ

How is the Pro XL different from the Pro?
Deeper substrate — 7 cm versus 3 cm — for deeper tunnels and more complex chambers, plus a wider arena.

How do I set it up and keep it humid?
Wet the DigFix substrate thoroughly, then introduce the colony — it is self-contained and ready from day one. The damp substrate holds the moisture; re-wet it as it dries through the service lid or port, with no separate sponge.

How big a colony does it suit?
Roughly 400–800 ants, especially digging species that benefit from deeper substrate.

Can I connect more space?
Yes — a universal 14 mm rotating port fits most tube sizes for extra arenas or nests.

Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. We dispatch within 24 h from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery, and a live arrival guarantee on colonies.
