Description

Growing colonies turn messy when they rattle around an oversized nest. The Vortex 20×10 cm answers that with three parallel zones the colony fills one at a time, plus an internal latch to hold it back until it’s ready. Six lockable ports, two sponge chambers and 9 mm rooms house ~400–800 Lasius, Tetramorium, Messor or smaller Camponotus, all linkable into a bigger formicarium.

Description

Modular Nest Vortex 20×10 cm — multi-zone acrylic ant nest for staged growth

This acrylic ant nest is built for the awkward middle phase, when a colony is expanding fast and you want a say in how it spreads. Three internal sections run side by side across the 20×10 body, so the colony moves into one parallel zone at a time instead of all at once. It’s part of the ANTonTOP modular range — acrylic modules you link into a setup that grows with the colony — made in Poland and shipped with tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide.

Why the parallel-zone layout works

A colony confined to the chambers it actually uses stays moist and orderly; one left loose in too much nest dries out the empty rooms and scatters its waste. The three parallel sections keep functions separated across the width of the nest, and the staged design lets you open ground only as the numbers justify it. It’s a practical shape for steering expansion rather than reacting to it.

Who it’s for

The Vortex suits a growing colony of roughly 400 to 800 workers, with 9 mm rooms that fit most popular species, including Lasius, Tetramorium, Messor harvester ants and small to medium Camponotus. A strong mid-size nest, and the obvious pick for keepers who’d rather guide growth than throw the doors open at once. The internal latch and three-zone design hand you real control: hold the colony in part of the nest at first, then release more as the population climbs. The six lockable nut-and-screw entrances take standard tubing to arenas and other modules, so the Vortex drops straight into a custom formicarium — start with it as the colony’s home and add outworlds or further modules without ever handling the queen.

Humidity and care

Two sponge chambers keep the body evenly moist across its zones. Refill them through the 3 mm syringe port once or twice a week; the water spreads passively through the sponges without reaching the living chambers, holding a steady level the colony can settle into. The smooth acrylic wipes clean and stays clear for viewing.

Setup and escape protection

Cap any unused entrances, run a tube to your access point, charge both sponges, and introduce the colony into the first zone — opening the next as it fills. Sealed acrylic and locked ports keep workers contained.

Pairs well with

An ANTonTOP outworld or arena for foraging, standard connection tubing, and a smaller 10×10 module the colony can keep as a satellite. When it keeps climbing, a 20×20 nest connects through the same ports for the next stage.

FAQ

What does “multi-zone parallel” actually mean here?
Three sections run side by side across the nest, so a growing colony spreads into one zone at a time for staged, organised growth rather than occupying everything at once.

What’s the internal latch for?
It lets you keep the colony in part of the nest and open the rest in stages as numbers grow, so the chambers in use stay occupied and humid.

How many ants does it hold?
Roughly 400 to 800 workers — a solid mid-size home.

Which species suit it?
The 9 mm rooms fit most popular species, Lasius and Tetramorium through to small and medium Camponotus.

How do I add water?
Through the 3 mm syringe port into the two sponge chambers, once or twice a week.

Do you ship outside Poland?
Yes — tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide, dispatched within 24 hours from Poland with heat or cool packs as the season needs.

A note on care: each item is built for a specific job — please use it only as intended. Responsibility for correct, safe use rests with the keeper; ANTonTOP accepts no liability for misuse or damage from improper use.
