Easter Island Moai statue — resin Rapa Nui landmark decoration for ant arenas
The Easter Island Moai statue is the figure everyone pictures: the heavy-browed, long-faced stone head of Rapa Nui, here at 6×4×12.5 cm in hand-finished resin for the open arena of a formicarium or terrarium. It is tall for its footprint, a vertical landmark that draws the eye and gives the colony a summit to claim. Cast in inert, food-safe resin with no harmful coatings, it is safe for ants to climb directly. Ships from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery.
Height is the point
This casting trades width for reach. A tall monolith hands the colony a vertical climb and a clear peak: scouts adopt the crown as a lookout while workers move up the face and around the figure. Larger arboreal species such as Camponotus and Polyrhachis use it most; smaller ground-foragers tend to circle the base. The dark form stands out sharply against pale substrate, and because it is slim it suits a deeper arena where its height isn’t lost.
How to place it
Stand it upright toward the back or centre as a backdrop, and bed the base firmly into the substrate so the tall figure sits steady. Keep climbing room around it. Build a scene with stones, sand and moss, and set the resin against a contrasting floor — white sand under dark stone, or the reverse. It works as a standalone desk or diorama piece too.
Care
Resin is waterproof and chemically inert, made for a humid outworld shared with live ants. Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth, or rinse under running water if soiled. Avoid harsh detergents and long direct sun, and dry it fully before returning it to the arena.
About the landmark
The Moai of Easter Island are 887 monolithic figures carved by the Rapa Nui between roughly 1250 and 1500 AD from volcanic tuff at the Rano Raraku quarry, then moved across the island. Recent experiments suggest the Rapa Nui “walked” them upright with ropes, rocking them side to side. The largest unfinished figure weighed an estimated 270 tonnes. Their purpose is debated; most likely they were deified ancestors set to watch over the island’s villages.
Pairs well with
Quartz sand and decorative stones for the floor, moss stones for a biotope look, and the rest of our big decor range. Want the whole body? See the 3D version, a larger figure with a visible torso and arms. Add a drinker and ant jelly to finish the outworld.
FAQ
How is this different from the 3D version?
This is the classic head-and-shoulders silhouette at 6×4×12.5 cm. The 3D version is a larger full-body figure (9.5×5×12.5 cm) with a visible torso and arms.
Is the resin safe for ants?
Yes. Inert, food-safe resin with no harmful coatings — ants climb it freely.
What size arena does it suit?
Any outworld 20×20 cm or larger. Its height reads best in a deeper arena.
Will my colony use it?
Most species treat the high points as perches and lookouts; larger climbers like Camponotus and Polyrhachis use it most.
Can I clean it under water?
Yes. Resin is waterproof — rinse if soiled and air-dry before returning it to the arena.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. We dispatch from Poland with tracked delivery across the EU, the UK and worldwide.
