There is a reason a young colony does better in a small nest. A handful of ants can patrol and clean a tight space, so the Diamond stays drier where it should and more humid where it counts, where an oversized nest would turn into damp, stale pockets the colony can’t manage. The clear walls put the queen, brood and foragers on show, the 9 mm chamber suits most popular species, and the single slider door lets you close off access at feeding time. It suits a small or young colony of 50–150 workers and makes a natural first nest for a beginner, a child or anyone short on space: a curious gift that becomes a living colony. Fast-growing species will outgrow it; keep them here while numbers are modest and connect a roomier nest later.

Add water to the sponge chamber through the 3 mm port with a syringe once or twice a week and it spreads by capillary action between the layered sheets, giving the colony an even gradient without ever wetting the ants. Top up before the sponge dries and never flood it; in a small nest a soaking is as harmful as a drought. Laser-cut micro-perforations keep passive airflow going without drafts, so clear leftover food promptly to keep condensation and mold away.

The Diamond arrives clean and ready. Peel the protective film from both faces, connect a tube if you are joining a test tube or outworld, fill the humidity chamber and populate. The fitted lid, arena walls and slider door hold workers in; for tiny or climbing species, a thin band of anti-escape fluid around the arena rim adds security.

A drinking dish or feeding plate so food doesn’t spoil into the substrate, protein and carbohydrate jelly for steady nutrition, soft tweezers for moving brood and food, and a syringe for watering. Keep arena decoration light — a little sand, a moss stone or a small house that clears the height.
