Easter Island Moai Statue — 3D Version

The extra body gives the colony more to work with than a plain monolith: a broader climb, more ledges, and a wider sheltered base. Scouts claim the head and shoulders as lookouts while the colony moves over the torso and around the figure. Larger climbers such as Camponotus and Polyrhachis use it most; ground-foragers circle the base. Against pale quartz sand the dark resin reads as carved stone. At nearly 10 cm wide, it shows best in a roomier outworld of 20×20 cm or larger, where its scale isn’t cramped.

Stand it upright toward the back or centre of the arena as the focal point and bed the base firmly into the substrate so it sits stable. Leave climbing room on every side. Build a scene around it with stones, sand and moss, and play the resin against a contrasting floor, such as white sand under dark stone, or the reverse. Off-arena, it doubles as a desk or diorama piece.

Resin is waterproof and chemically inert, the right material for a humid outworld with live ants. Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth, or rinse it under running water if it is soiled. Skip harsh detergents and long spells in direct sun, and dry it fully before it goes back in.

The Moai are 887 monolithic figures carved by the Rapa Nui people between roughly 1250 and 1500 AD from the volcanic tuff of the Rano Raraku quarry. The bodies are real but little known: many figures stand sunk to the shoulders in centuries of accumulated soil, which is why the world remembers only the heads. This casting restores the rest.

How is this different from the standard Moai?
This 3D version is larger (9.5×5×12.5 cm) and shows the full body with torso and arms. The standard Moai is a smaller head-and-shoulders silhouette at 6×4×12.5 cm.

Is the resin safe for ants?
Yes. Inert, food-safe resin with no harmful coatings — ants climb it without harm.

What size arena does it suit?
Any outworld 20×20 cm or larger. Its width shows best with a little room around it.

Will my colony actually use it?
Most species treat the head and shoulders as perches; larger climbers like Camponotus and Polyrhachis make the most of the body.

Can I clean it under water?
Yes. Resin is waterproof — rinse if soiled and air-dry before returning it to the arena.
