Description
Metallic-gold gravel for a showpiece floor. The 1.5–8 mm mixed grade catches light and gives an arena a polished finish, strongest as an accent against dark sand. Inert, washed, colony-safe, colour fixed so it won’t bleed. One 8×4×2 cm bag tops a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena. A little goes a long way.
Use it sparingly as a border and the whole floor reads premium.

Gold decorative stones for ant arenas
Gold is the standout shade, the one you reach for when an arena needs a rich finish. The metallic-gold tone catches light and lifts the floor toward a polished look, and it reads strongest as an accent set against dark sand. The grade is a mixed 1.5–8 mm natural stone, dyed and washed, chunkier than sand and finished with the same non-toxic colour-fixing as our quartz range. Supplied in an 8×4×2 cm bag, shipped from Poland with tracked EU, UK and worldwide delivery, and safe in direct contact with the colony.
What the sheen does
These are decor stones, not tunnelling substrate. The metallic tone gives the arena a standout finish, especially over black sand, and the mixed grain adds the texture a flat floor lacks. Because the colour is bonded to the stone, spraying or rinsing won’t bleed it into the water dish or stain the acrylic. Gold works best as a highlight, so a little does a lot.
Who it suits
Display keepers and gift setups that want a rich, standout finish, and anyone building a treasure, temple or premium-themed arena. Used as a border or a thin scatter rather than a full floor, it stays refined rather than gaudy.
How to use it
Scatter about 0.5–1 cm over fine sand for a top accent, or run a thin strip as a path or border between zones. The grain is too large for ants to tunnel, so it sits on top while the colony digs in the sand beneath. Set the gold against black or dark quartz sand to make it pop.
Pairs well with
Black and brown quartz sand to make the gold stand out, white quartz sand for a bright contrast, and our miniature landmarks and architectural figures. Use sparingly as a border or path for a deliberate look.
FAQ
Is the colour safe for ants?
Yes. The non-toxic dye is fixed to the stone and safe in direct contact with the colony.
Will it bleed if the arena is sprayed?
No. The colour is bonded to each stone, so misting and rinsing don’t transfer it.
Will ants dig in it?
No. The 1.5–8 mm grain is too large to tunnel. Use it over a sand layer the ants can dig in.
How much does one bag cover?
The 8×4×2 cm bag covers roughly a 10×10 to 20×10 cm arena as a top accent layer.
Can I combine it with other colours?
Yes. Pair it with other decorative-stone colours or quartz sand for layered, themed scenes.
