Description

Run the corridors on a diagonal and you fit the longest connected path a 10×10 footprint allows. That’s the Nova 10×10 cm: more usable run than a straight grid the same size, so a founding colony settles it evenly from the start. Lockable nut-and-screw ports, a sponge chamber and 9 mm rooms suit up to ~350 Lasius, Tetramorium, Messor or smaller Camponotus.

Modular Nest Nova 10×10 cm — acrylic ant nest with a diagonal-corridor layout

This 10×10 cm acrylic ant nest runs its corridors on the diagonal rather than in straight horizontal or vertical lines, and that one decision packs the longest possible connected path into a 10×10 footprint. Workers get more continuous run than a plain grid of the same size would give, which makes it a generous founding nest for a colony you expect to grow. It’s part of the ANTonTOP modular range, a system of acrylic modules you link into a setup that grows with the colony, made in Poland and shipped with tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide.

Why the diagonal layout works

A diagonal corridor is the simplest way to stretch more path across a fixed square. The colony gets more connected nest to occupy than a same-size grid offers, so workers settle the module evenly and brood-care traffic keeps flowing instead of piling up. For a small or founding colony, that makes for a calmer, better-organised nest.

Who it’s for

The Nova fits a small to medium colony of up to about 350 workers, with 9 mm rooms that suit most popular pet species, among them Lasius niger, Tetramorium, Messor harvester ants and small to medium Camponotus. An easy first acrylic nest for a colony leaving its test tube, and a good extra module when building out a bigger system.

Humidity and care

A single sponge chamber keeps the nest evenly moist. Refill it through the 3 mm syringe port once or twice a week and the water spreads passively through the sponge without reaching the living chambers — most popular species do well at a comfortable, even humidity rather than a soaked nest. The smooth surface wipes clean and stays clear, and the nest largely looks after itself once the colony is in.

Setup and escape protection

Cap any entrances you aren’t using, run a tube to your access point, charge the sponge, and introduce the colony. The sealed acrylic body and locked ports keep workers where they belong while the colony settles in.

Expansion and pairings

The four lockable nut-and-screw entrances take standard tubing to arenas and other modules, so a single nest expands into a custom formicarium as the colony grows, with no stressful full moves and no rehousing the queen by hand. Add an outworld for foraging and feeding, standard connection tubing, and a spare water-charged test tube for founding colonies; when the Nova fills up, a second 10×10 module or a 20×10 nest connects through the same ports to extend the system.

FAQ

What does the diagonal layout gain me?
It fits the longest connected run into a 10×10 footprint, more usable path than a straight grid of the same size, so the colony spreads evenly and traffic keeps flowing.

Is it a good first nest?
Yes. The generous path makes it a calm, well-organised home for a small or founding colony moving out of a test tube.

How many ants does it hold, and which species suit it?
Up to roughly 350 workers; the 9 mm rooms fit most popular species, Lasius and Tetramorium through to small and medium Camponotus. When the colony outgrows it, connect another module or a larger nest and let the ants move across.

How do I add water?
Through the 3 mm syringe port into the sponge chamber, once or twice a week.

Do you ship outside Poland?
Yes — tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide, dispatched within 24 hours from Poland with heat or cool packs as the season needs.
