Description
Ants don’t want every room the same — some dark and enclosed for brood, others open for traffic. The Quartz 10×10 cm gives them that with offset, asymmetric chambers instead of a uniform grid, so the colony gives each little space its own job. Lockable nut-and-screw ports, a sponge chamber and 9 mm rooms suit up to ~350 Lasius, Tetramorium, Messor or smaller Camponotus.
Varied rooms a colony actually uses differently.

Modular Nest Quartz 10×10 cm — staggered acrylic ant nest with varied chambers
This acrylic ant nest breaks the grid on purpose. Its rooms are offset in an irregular, staggered pattern, giving the colony distinct, semi-private chambers rather than a row of identical ones: some darker and tucked away for brood, others more open for movement, the way ants actually keep house. It’s part of the ANTonTOP modular range — acrylic modules you link into a setup that grows with the colony — made in Poland and shipped with tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide.

Why the staggered layout works
Offset rooms split the nest into varied little spaces the colony puts to different jobs, so it feels more natural than a uniform grid and rewards closer watching. The asymmetry gives the module character too: every colony settles its irregular chambers a little differently, and no two setups end up looking quite the same behind the acrylic.
Who it’s for
The Quartz fits a small to medium colony of up to about 350 workers, with 9 mm rooms that suit most popular species, including Lasius, Tetramorium, Messor harvester ants and small to medium Camponotus. A good first acrylic nest for keepers who want something less rigid than a grid, and an attractive module within a larger system. The four lockable nut-and-screw entrances take standard tubing to arenas and other modules, so one nest expands into a custom formicarium as the colony grows — no stressful full moves, no handling the queen. When the Quartz fills, link another module or a 20×10 nest and let the ants migrate across at their own pace.
Humidity and care
A single sponge chamber keeps the nest evenly moist. Refill it through the 3 mm syringe port once or twice a week; the water spreads passively through the sponge without reaching the living chambers, holding a steady level the colony can settle into. The smooth acrylic wipes clean and stays clear for viewing.
Setup and escape protection
Cap any unused entrances, run a tube to your access point, charge the sponge, and introduce the colony. The sealed acrylic body and locked ports keep workers where they belong.
Pairs well with
An ANTonTOP outworld or arena for foraging, a length of standard connection tubing, and a spare water-charged test tube for founding colonies. A second 10×10 module or a 20×10 nest extends the system through the same ports.
FAQ
How is a staggered nest better than an even grid?
The offset rooms give the colony varied, semi-private chambers it can assign to different jobs — darker spaces for brood, more open ones for traffic — which feels more natural and is more interesting to watch.
Will every colony arrange it the same way?
No, and that’s part of the appeal — the asymmetric layout means each colony settles its chambers a little differently.
How many ants does it hold?
Up to roughly 350 workers. When the colony outgrows it, connect another module or a larger nest and let the ants move across.
Which species suit it?
The 9 mm rooms fit most popular species, Lasius and Tetramorium through to small and medium Camponotus.
How do I add water?
Through the 3 mm syringe port into the sponge chamber, once or twice a week.
Do you ship outside Poland?
Yes — tracked delivery across the EU, UK and worldwide, dispatched within 24 hours from Poland with heat or cool packs as the season needs.
A note on care: each item is built for a specific job — please use it only as intended. Responsibility for correct, safe use rests with the keeper; ANTonTOP accepts no liability for misuse or damage from improper use.
